Shandong Province ranks the third in the country in terms of its total economy. In 2005 GDP of the province reached 1.8 trillion yuan, an increase of 15% over the previous year. It has achieved a two-digit economic increase for 15 consecutive years.

2.Agriculture
Shandong province is an important area for agricultural output with the yields of grain, cotton, edible oil, vegetables, fruits, meat and aquatic products leading in the country. Agriculture output reached 366 billion yuan in 2005, ranking the first in the country. Export of agricultural produces from Shandong Province accounts for 1/4 of China's total agricultural export.

The planting area of crops in Shandong province covers more than 10 million hectares. Major crops include wheat, corn, soybean, rice, cotton, peanut, vegetables and various fruits..
Animal Husbandry Sector
Shandong Province ranks the first in China in terms of total livestock number. In 2005, the total production value of the province's animal husbandry reached 112.5 billion yuan, increasing by 10%. The total production of meats, eggs and dairy products amounted to 8.66 million tons,? 4.68 million tons and 2.76 million tons respectively.
Fishery Sector
With rich aquatic resources, Shandong is the biggest province for aquatic products in the country. In 2005 output value of major marine products hit 240 billion yuan, up 13% over the previous year, and the total aquatic product output totaled 7.2 million tons.
3.Industry
Manufacturing Industry
The major sectors of the manufacturing industry include chemical industry, metallurgy, building materials, machinery, shipbuilding, automobile, electronics, household appliances, textile, foodstuff and so on, of which, chemical industry, building materials, household appliances, textile and foodstuff take important places in China. A large number of enterprises owns famous brands enjoying high reputation at home and abroad, such as Haier and Hisense in Qingdao, Dongyue Automobile in Yantai, Heavy Duty Trucks Group in Jinan, Xinhua Pharmaceutical in Zibo and Weiqiao Textile in Binzhou.
Mining Industry
The following mining sectors in Shandong Province are well-developed: coal mining and separating, petroleum exploiting, natural gas extracting, as well as ferrous and nonferrous metal ore mining and separating. Such mining enterprises as Shengli Oil Field, Yankuang Mining Group, Zhaoyuan Gold Group and so on rank in the forefront in the country for their business indexes.?

4.Service Industry
Finance
There are 34 banking institutions in Shandong Province, including 9 foreign banks and representative offices of foreign banks. 24 insurance companies with nationwide network have set up branches in Shandong, and 146 insurance intermediary institutions have been put into operation.
Logistics
There are more than 3000 companies being engaged in logistics industry in Shandong Province. The following large-scale domestic and foreign logistics companies have invested in the province: Danmark Maersk, Japan Itochu, South Korea Hanjin Logistics, Singapore Singamas, China National Materials Storage and Transportation Corporation (CMST) and COSCO Group. At present, 67 logistics zones have been put into business or are now under construction.
Commerce
In 2005, the retail sales of social consumer goods of Shandong Province totaled 510 billion yuan, increasing by 15% over the previous year. There are more than 300 markets with their annual turnover exceeding 100 million yuan, including 10 foreign invested retail companies.
5.Tourism
Shandong Province is rich in historical and cultural relics, scenic spots and holiday resorts, including Mt. Tai and Confucius Temple, Mansion and Mausoleum in Qufu City, listed as “World Natural and Cultural Heritage” and “World Cultural Heritage” respectively by UNESCO, Penglai Pavilion, known as the “Fairyland of Human Beings”, Mt. Laoshan, the “Sacred Place of Taoism”, Rizhao, the “Capital City of Aquatic Sports”, Weifang, the “World Capital of Kites”, Qingdao, the “International Beer City”, Yantai, the “International Wine City” and Jinan, the “City of Springs”, etc. The hotels of star standard have added up to 460 in the province. In 2005 Shandong hosted nearly 140 million domestic tourists and 1.5 million overseas tourists, recording a tourist revenue of 100 billion yuan.
