Jining City
I. Facts about Jining
Jining, located in the southwest of Shandong Province, China,
is a prefecture-level city with 12 counties, county-level cities
or districts i.e Shizhong District, Rencheng District, Yanzhou
City, Qufu City, Sishui County, Zhoucheng City, Weishan County,
Yutai County, Jinxiang County, Jiaxiang County, Wenshang County
and Liangshan County, with an area of 11,000sq.km and a population
of 7.97 million.
Jining is not only one of the six key industrial centers confirmed
by Shandong Province, but also a developing city with economic
strength and cultures, as well as the center of resources development
of the region and city group structure. With a GDP of RMB 74.4
RMB billion yuan and local revenue of 4 RMB billion yuan. Jining
ranked the sixth among the 17 prefecture-level cities of Shandong
Province in comprehensive economic strength.
II. Mineral Resources
There are over 70 kinds of proven minerals in Jining, with an
enormous potential for development.
Coal: Jining is one of the top 8 coal bases in China. The exploited
coal reserve is 3400 sq. km, covering 35% of the whole area of
the city. The amount of exploited coal reserve reaches 24 billion
tons, accounting for half of the province’s reserve and the annual
exploitation output amounts to 60 million tons.
Freshwater: Jining has 5 billion cu. m freshwater reserve (1/6
of the total reserve in Shandong), among which 1.5 billion cu.
m are underground water.
Electricity: The Power Plant of Zouxian County, with an installed
capacity of 3.6 million kw, is the largest thermal power plant
in Asia. The city enjoys an annual generating capacity of 21billion
kw/h.
Rare-earth: There is 13 million tons proven rare-earth in the
city, which ranks second in the national reserves.
Building Materials: The proven limestone reserve is up to 2 billion
cu. m and stone as material building 2 billion cu. m, with 5.55
million tons of annual cement output.
III. Economic Development
Agriculture:
Jining is the nation’s key production base for commodity grain,
cotton, cash crops and freshwater farming. It has over 1/3 the
province’s fine breeds of livestock husbandry. Its affrostation
covers 107 thousand hectares, with 13% of its land covered by
forests.
Grain: The annual output of commodity grain is 3.65 million tons.
Yanzhou and Qufu are the two bases for marketable grain and Yutai
is the production zone for high-quality rice.
Garlic: Jingxiang County, which has a 600-thousand-ton annual
output of high-quality garlic, is named by the country as “Hometown
of Garlic in China”. The white garlic produced in the county accounts
for above 85% of the state’s garlic export, and has been exported
to all over the world.
Cotton: The city has commodity cotton of 100 thousand tons annually.
Wenshang is the cotton production zone.
Oil Plants: The annual output reaches 210 thousand tons. Zoucheng
and Sishui are zones for the cash crops such as peanut and soybean.
Aquatic Products: The annual output is 200,000 tons; Weishan
and Rencheng are the bases for freshwater aquiculture. The four-nostril
carp exclusively produced in Weishan and the lead-free duck egg
preserved in dragon jar are the unique specialties.
Vegetables: an annual output of 6.4 million tons.
Livestock Husbandry: The annual meat output is 640 thousand tons,
eggs 420 thousand tons and dairy 32 thousand tons
Industry
Jining is one of the six industrial centers in Shandong and has
10 industrial sectors such as: coal, power, metallurgy, machinery,
electron, building materials, chemistry, medicine, textile and
light, with nearly 200 large and medium sized industrial enterprises
producing more than 3500 competitive products and more than 10
thousand varieties.
Yanzhou Mining Group, one of the top 100 enterprises in China,
listed in New York Stock Exchange. Shantui Construction Machinery
Co., Ltd. and Lukang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. were listed in Shenzhen
Securities Exchange and Shanghai Securities Exchange market respectively.
Yanzhou Mining Group Co., Ltd., Zouxian County Power Plant, Sun
Paper Group Co., Ltd. and Komastsu Shantui Co., Ltd. are among
the top 50 enterprises in Shandong Province.
