Liaocheng City
I. Facts about Liaocheng
Liaocheng City ((N35°47′-37°02′ E115°16′-116°32′), is located
in the west of Shandong Province, facing Handan City and Xingtai
of Hebei Province across Zhangwei river to the west, facing Henan
Province as well as Jining, Taian, and Jinan city of Shandong
Province to the south and southeast across Jindi River and Yellow
River, neighboring Dezhou city on the north and north-east. The
city is 114 km from east to west and 139km from south to north
with a total area of 8,590km2, 5.6% of the whole area coverage
of Shandong Province.
The name of Liaocheng was from ancient Liaoshe Kingdom. In August,
1997, the establishment of prefecture-level Liaocheng city and
Dongchanfu District was approved by the State Council. Liaocheng
has Dongchanfu District, Linqing City and other six counties,
i.e. Guanxian, Xingxiang, Yangu, Donger, Chiping, Gaotang as well
as an economic and technological development area with a population
of 5.508 million.
Liaocheng city has an extraordinary good geographic location.
The Beijing-HK railway runs through the city, Handan –Jinan, Jinan-Liaocheng-Guangtao
express ways cross Beijing-Guangzhou, Beijing-HK and Beijing-Shanghai,
three vital communication lines. This 3D network of communication
lines makes Liaocheng city the second largest communication hub
in Shandong Province. The 1,500mu Liaocheng railway marshalling
yard is one of the four newly built marshalling yards along the
Beijing-HK railway line. After the Beijing-HK railway is put into
operation, 44 passenger trains pass through the area, and 110
cargo trains are grouped here everyday. With the connection of
Beijing-HK railway and Eurasian Continental Bridge, Liaocheng
can reach Hong Kong to the south, Russia to the north, and Rotterdam
Netherlands to the west. Liaocheng has been changed from “an inland
city to a window city”.
II. Natural Resources
Liaocheng is rich in natural resources, especially agricultural
products and aquatic products. It is one of the deep processing
and export bases for marketable grain, fine cotton, vegetables,
and fruits. The liaocheng development zone sits on the skylight
areas of the fault zone of ancient Qian mountain limestone in
Lower Pan Gu period, there are 24km2 of subterranean heat land
with warm water (50~60。C) buried shallow and easy to tap.
III. Infrastructure
With reform and opening up, Liaocheng is developing very fast.
8 large warehouses for special purpose have been built near the
railway station. With the help of Jinan Railway Administrative
Bureau, RMB 55 million yuan was invested in the construction of
a large and modernized container freight yard with an annual handling
capacity of 120,000 tons. 6 special railway lines under construction
connect the state-level reserve warehouses and customs bonded
warehouses for crops, cotton, petrol, material, etc. The railway
lines guarantee the transportation of the rich coal resources
and the farm products through Beijing-HK railway line and enter
the domestic and international markets. The international goods
transportation center, customs office and land port are under
construction. The city has built the overall infrastructure construction
on roads, communication and power supply, three vertical and three
horizontal main streets, 10 km in length each, formed the whole
frame of the urban area, the communication system has been upgraded
into digital network, connecting Liaocheng with the whole country
and the world. On the power construction, Liaocheng is marching
towards the objective of being the largest power energy base in
Shandong as well as in northeastern China. On the basis of the
generation capacity of 250MW, the new 100MW generator unit is
being constructed and 4 times 600MW generator unit is planned.
IV. Economic Development
Industry
Owing many advantages concerning the location, transportation
and communication, coal, power, water, tourism, manpower, agriculture
products and key enterprises, Liaocheng is not only one of the
five national production bases of marketable grain, fine cotton,
fresh water aquaculture, husbandry and vegetables but also a distribution
center for all kinds of commodities in the middle of China. Liaocheng’s
industry system centered on electric power, automobile, textile,
machinery and papermaking and with supplementary industries such
as food, medicine, chemicals, electronics etc is just beginning
to take shape. The Shandong Shifeng Group and Dong-e E-jiao Group
etc are all well-known enterprises in China. There are 43 enterprises
in this city with sales income amounting to more than RMB100 million
yuan and tax more than RMB10 milllion yuan.
Liaocheng is an important manufacturing and processing base of
machinery components in China. The annual output of one million
farm vehicles ranks first in China, and annual output of 4,000
luxury large buses also ranks first in this industry in China,
the tractor making ranks second in China with an annual output
of 500,000 sets and the diesel engine making takes the third place
in China with an annual output of 1.3 million sets.
Liaocheng is an important manufacturing base of chemical fertilizer
in China with a production capacity of 1.6 million tons of urea
and compound fertilizer.
Liaocheng is an important papermaking base with a capacity of
1 million ton in China.
Liaosheng has 580,000 spindles, with over 320 products of yarn;
cloth, garments, knitwear etc have been exported to more than
20 countries and regions.
Liaocheng is an important production base of vegetables, fruits,
edible mushrooms in China. There is a rapid development of the
processing enterprises of agricultural products, the export of
beef cattle ranks first in Shandong province and the output and
export volume take the second place in Shandong Province.
The E-gelatin annual output is 1,500 tons that accounts for 70%
of the total output in China and the export takes more than 90%
of the total amount of China.
Laiocheng is a newly developed energy base with an annual thermal
power generation capacity of two million kw.
Agriculture
Liaocheng is well developed in agriculture. It is both a production
base of marketable grain, fine cotton, vegetables, poultry and
husbandry and a processing and export base of agricultural products.
The four leading industries that are vegetables, poultry and husbandry,
forest and fruit and aquatics, are beginning to take shape. The
300,000 mu of pear plantation tops China in its area.
The output and the export of beef and broiler rank high in Shandong
Province.
The edible mushroom and the processed vegetables are exported
to more than 40 countries all over the world.
The total freshwater area is 255,000 mu, with 150,000 mu utilized
for fresh water farming.
