In 2004, the value of import and export in Shandong was US$59.5 billion, of which US$35 billion for export and US$24.5 billion for import. The export from Qingdao, Yantai and Weihai was US$12 billion, 4 billion and 3 billion respectively.

By the end of 2004, Shandong has attracted US$54.8 billion of foreign investment.The Peninsula Manufacturing Base utilized US$34 billion, which constituted 62% of the total amount in Shandong province.

3、Investments in Foreign Countries
By the end of 2004, 931 enterprises/organizations of Shandong have been approved to

be set up overseas, and the total contracted investment reached US$1.32 billion, in which US$0.96 billion is from Chinese investors. The investment is mainly in the fields of home appliances industry, metallurgy, textile and garments industry, food processing, information technology, agricultural plantation, aquatic product processing, light industry, agricultural machinery, real estate, advertising, woods, tourism, food & beverage and fishery and cover 96 countries/regions around the world, with resource exploration, manufacturing and service industry as three major fields.

4.Sister Relationships
Qingdao, Yantai and Weihai have established sister relationships with 28 cities from15 countries, including Southampton in the UK, San Diego in the US, Daegu in South Korea and Shimonoseki in Japan.

5.Foreign Institutions

There are 2189 foreign institutions in Shandong Peninsula Manufacturing Base, of which 1747 institutions are located in Qingdao. These foreign institutions are mainly from 30 countries and regions, such as Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and the United States etc.
