Shandong Peninsula Manufacturing Base lies in the east of Shandong province( 35°35’—38° 23’ N, 119° 30’ – 122° 42’ E), with BohaiSea and Yellow Sea to the north( facing Liaodong peninsula), Yellow Sea to the east ( facing Korean peninsula and Japanese islands), and a total area of 30,000 sq. km.The Base comprises Qingdao, Yantai and Weihai cities, accounting for 19% of the area of Shandong province.

Qingdao:The GDP of Qingdao was 206 billion Yuan in 2004, an increase of 16% over 2003. As one of the earliest open cities along the east coast of China, Qingdao is an economic center specifically designated in the state plan with provincial economic management authority. It is a well-known port of foreign trade, light industry, textile, food and beverage, marine research and tourism.It has sound and solid industry basis with diversified sectors. Manufacturing industry is shaping. Chemical and rubber industries rank top in China. The industries of electronic meters, home appliances, construction materials and pharmacy develop quickly. Tsingdao Beer, Haier, Hisense, Changyu Wine, and etc enjoy high reputation on both domestic and international markets.
Yantai: The GDP of Yantai in 2004 was 155 billion Yuan, an increase of 18% over 2003. As a city, Yantai has a history of more than 130 years, rich in historical and cultural relics such as Penglaige Pavillion, Wenfengshan stone inscription and Kunlunshan Taoism with unique folklore features. Yantai has good agricultural basis; it is one of the first groups of state level export-oriented agricultural demonstration zone. It has a complete and diversified industrial system in light industry, foodstuff, textiles, machinery, electronics, metallurgy, coal, building material, etc. High-tech industry is developing fast. Main products are automobiles, auto-air conditioners, electronic screens, electronic components, freezers, construction machinery, power equipments, conductive glass, polyamide fiber, spandex silk, and computers, etc.
Weihai: The GDP of Weihai in 2004 was 99 billion Yuan, an increase of 18% over 2003.UNESCO honors it one of the most suitable city for hesitancy. Weihai has very well developed industries; it is China’s biggest producing base of carpet, fish pole, and mini-wooden machine tool. Products like tyres, medical high polymer, program controlled electronic switching system, etc. are also well-known. High-tech industries such as IT , new materials and bioengineering, etc, have been developing rapidly, accounting for 16% of the gross industrial output of Weihai.
